We are gearing up for our recording day on Sunday, 28th June at Pianodrome Bruntsfield.

The aim is to record six original sea shanties, but we may not get around to all of them! You are welcome to join for all or part of it, but please don’t leave unless we're between two songs. The recordings will happen as one-takes, rather than recording different sections separately. If you get the words wrong, don’t worry! Just keep going. We won’t reset unless the lead shantyperson gets something wrong, to make it sound like one of our authentic shanty nights. Hopefully, this will speed up the process a little bit as well.

All lyrics have been added to the website in our lyrics section. The shanties in question are (alphabetically):

• We have a start time of 12 noon - that means arrival anytime from 11am, but really 11.30-11.45 is fine. The address is Pianodrome Bruntsfield, 41 Montpelier Park, Edinburgh EH10 4NB.

• We will take short breaks between songs and a longer one at the halfway point. As we don’t know how quickly we’ll move through the songs, more exact timings can’t be given ahead of the day itself! Feel free to leave and come back between songs, or just come along for part of it. If you’re joining and a recording is mid-way, we’d kindly ask you to wait to join the group until that particular song is done.

• We are unable to offer payment for this, but we are also not charging anyone to attend! We will cover the venue and recording costs.

• This is not meant to be a spectator event. If you show up, we’ll expect you to sing along!

• By taking part, you agree that you will be recorded (audio and video) and that these recordings will be used online and for promotional purposes. The recorded songs will be made available on this website and potentially streaming services (fees permitting), and the videos from the day will appear on social media (Instagram, YouTube) and this website.

• This is not an all-ages event. No under-5s, and any under-16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

• You can let us know that you’ll be attending by emailing edinburghshanty@gmail.com but that is not a requirement. Any questions and concerns can also be sent there.
