Memento Mori

(Edinburgh Shanty Night original - words by Julia, music by Ash)

The sun is rising high

The port is much too far

We‘re lost at sea but never mind

We‘ll find out where we are

Remember what the old man said

Before we left the shore:

Memento mori, let us see

What heaven has in store

Our navigator‘s dead

Our maps fell in the sea

And now the weather‘s turning

We‘re unlucky as can be

A storm is blowing, boys

We may be doomed to die

But when the ship is breaking

And the waves reach to the sky

Our fate is knocking, friends

the sea, she pulls us down

But as we‘re slowly sinking

Let‘s not go out with a frown

It doesn‘t do to dwell

On what you cannot save

Our lives are forfeit, one and all

And now we must be brave!

We‘ve lived our fullest lives

If this is where it ends

We‘ll rest in peace while knowing

That we‘re going down with friends

In our last moments, crew

We raise another glass

To leaving life as we came in

Let’s go out with a blast!
